Spanish utility Nuclenor has requested a partial revocation of a ministerial order allowing an extension to the operating licence application deadline for the shut Garoña nuclear power plant- a 466 MWe boiling water reactor - enabling a possible restart.
Garoña was disconnected from the grid on 16 December 2012....

Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) President Atsuyuki Suzuki has resigned after the country's nuclear regulator blocked the restart of the Monju prototype fast breeder reactor (FBR) due to inspection deficiencies.
The Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) stated that JAEA would not be permitted to make preparations for the restart of the 280 MWe Monju FBR until it could confirm improvements to its inspection procedures....

Westinghouse and China's State Nuclear Power Technology Corp (SNPTC) have formed a joint venture to develop the global AP1000 supply chain. The joint venture will initially assist Chinese manufacturing companies in meeting quality and safety standards for supplying equipment and components for AP1000 plants in that country's build program.
Part of their long-term plans is to help qualified Chinese suppliers export their products around the world, as well as assist global suppliers in importing their parts to China.
Westinghouse president and CEO Danny Roderick said, "We expect to provide new opportunities for business both within and outside of China....

UK-based engineering company James Fisher Nuclear (JFN) has won a GBP 5 million contract for the retrieval and processing of radioactive waste from a 65-metre deep shaft and a wet silo at the Dounreay site.
Under the contract, JFN will supply a suite of remote handling equipment over a two-year period....
